The world-famous crystal-clear oasis where you can swim alongside wild manatees.
Distance from Home: 9.5 miles
Drive Time: Approx. 13 minutes
Best Season: Mid-November to late March (for peak manatee counts), though beautiful year-round!
Access Type: Boardwalk (land viewing) or Paddle/Swim (water access)
Three Sisters Springs is the undisputed crown jewel of Citrus County. Fed by a cluster of first-magnitude natural springs, this neon-teal basin maintains a constant 72°F ($22^\circ\text{C}$) temperature year-round. In the winter, it serves as a critical warm-water sanctuary, attracting hundreds of West Indian manatees. Whether you are gazing down from the pristine wooden boardwalk or floating gently in the glassy water, it is a bucket-list ecological wonder.
Option A: The Scenic Walk (Boardwalk Viewing)
If you want to view the manatees dry and up-close, head to the boardwalk.
Please Note: There is no public vehicle parking directly at the refuge. You will need to park at the Three Sisters Springs Center (123 NW Hwy 19) and catch their continuous trolley, or walk/bike in from nearby designated trailheads.
Option B: Swim or Paddle In (Water Access)
To get directly inside the spring run, you must enter from the water. Watercraft are strictly prohibited from entering the inner vents during manatee season to protect the herd, but swimmers and kayakers can access the run.
How to execute: Transport the complimentary Manatee Oaks kayaks or inflatable SUPs to Hunter Springs Park or Pete's Pier, launch from there, and make the scenic paddle down the canal to the spring entrance!
The Dry Bag Rule: If paddling, pack your phones in our provided waterproof cases and keep valuables in the heavy-duty dry bags. Also, Citus County marine patrol is active and ensures everyone has a life jacket on board!
Best Time to Beat the Crowds: Arrive at your launch point by 8:00 AM. You'll get glassy, undisturbed water and have the springs almost entirely to yourself before the commercial tour boats arrive.
Manatee Oaks has the equipment you need to swim with Manatees!
