Pete's Pier is an active, historic landmark that captures the true soul of old-school Florida maritime culture. Located in the sheltered south basin of Kings Bay, this deep-water marina is bustling with shrimp boats, private vessels, and captain-led eco-tours. It’s the ultimate place to watch the daily catches come in, feed giant tarpon directly from the docks, or launch a day of offshore fishing.
Charter a Captain: Want to swim with the manatees or dive for wild scallops without the stress of navigating? This is the primary hub to hire a local licensed captain for private, guided excursions.
Feed the Tarpon: Buy a small bag of bait from the historic marina bait shop and walk out onto the wooden docks. Giant, prehistoric-looking tarpon patrol the deep slips waiting for a quick snack—a huge hit for kids!
The Captain’s Advantage: If you are trailering your own boat, the nearby Inglis Barge Canal (2.8 miles away) is your fastest saltwater Gulf launch. But if you want to cruise the freshwater springs or dock at a waterfront tiki bar for lunch, launch from Kings Bay Park to put your boat directly into the spring-fed bay system.
Scallop Season Savvy: If you are visiting between July 1st and September 24th, you are in peak Florida Scalloping Season! Book your charter captains months in advance, as the slips at Pete's Pier sell out completely.
Waterfront Dining: After a day on the bay, dock your boat (or park your car) at one of the local waterfront spots like Cracker's or The Port Grille for fresh oysters and cold cocktails.
