Rainbow Springs is one of Florida's largest and most spectacular first-magnitude spring basins, producing over 400 million gallons of fresh water daily. The water is so intensely clear that you can easily spot fish and ancient river turtles swimming 10 feet below the surface. Framed by sloping hills, historic ornamental azalea gardens, and cascading waterfalls, it feels more like a tropical mountain resort than flat-land Florida.
The Swimming Basin: Take a plunge into the giant, designated swimming area right at the spring head. The water remains a crisp, highly refreshing 72°F year-round.
The Lazy Tubing Run: Locate the separate Rainbow Springs Tubing Entrance (18010 SW 180th Avenue Rd). Here, you can rent oversized inner tubes and take a lazy, 2-hour drift down the emerald river under a canopy of ancient, moss-draped cypress trees. A park shuttle brings you right back to your car when finished!
Historic Gardens & Waterfalls: Take a dry walk along the paved, elevated trails that wind past three man-made waterfalls built back when the park was a private 1930s tourist attraction.
The Early Bird Gets the Tube: On hot summer weekends, the tubing parking lot frequently reaches maximum capacity and closes by 10:00 AM. Plan to arrive by 8:30 AM to secure your rental and guarantee water entry.
No Plastics Allowed: To protect this fragile ecosystem, disposable plastics (water bottles, ziplock bags, wrappers) are strictly banned on the river. Pack your snacks and drinks in reusable thermoses or containers!
